Bandarpunch glacier

About

·       Bandarpunch which literally means ‘monkey’s tail’, is a glacier which lies in the western Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

·       Bandarpunch is located at the western edge of the high Himalayan range where it turns the corner to the northwest. It is part of the Sankari Range and lies within the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park and Sanctuary.

·       It is 12 km long, situated around 6316 m above the sea level, Bandarpunch Glacier nestles broadly on the slope of three peaks namely Bandarpunch I (6316m) and Bandarpunch II (6102m) and Kalanag also known as the Black Peak (6387m).

·       The beauty and the uniqueness of this natural wonder is that it feeds the river Ganga and the river Yamuna.

·       This glacier is one of the most popular escapades for countless trekking fanatics.

·       The month of May or June is considered to be the perfect time to trek this spot. During this time the trail to Bandarpunch Glacier features abundant spring flowers in their full bloom.
