Marriage between two different religions in India
You must have heard about many weddings in your life, you must have attended many weddings yourself, many of you must have been married. Wherever there is talk of marriage, it is an atmosphere of happiness, two different people meet as soon as two families meet and remain together for life.
Apart from this, you must have also heard the news of marriage between two different religions, which would have surprised many, while many would have been happy. Here not only two people, but two families and two cultures also mix and the country which presents a living example of unity in diversity. This breaks the conservatism of many people of the society, together with the coming together of two culture and religion, unity and trust in the society also increases.
How fun it is to read the above lines and to hear how two religions are coming together and getting together for a lifetime, but now let us make you face the truth.
Is the process of getting married in two religions as easy as it sounds? After all, how is marriage happening between two religions inside the country? What problems are they facing? We will try to know the answer of these questions further.
First of all, let's talk about what are the ways of getting married between two religions in the country or what legal provisions are available so that people of two religions can marry each other.
There are two options available for this in India -
So first of all let us discuss the first option, which you must have often heard in the name of court marriage, if it is said in legal language, then under the Special Marriage Act 1954, you have to register under it and after that there is a marriage between the two people who is from two different religions.
How easy it is to hear that there is a law to register and get married, but it is not easy. Many problems have to be faced in this, the process is quite complicated and quite lengthy.
First of all, you have to fulfill some terms and conditions under this law, such as both should be adults, mental condition should be fine etc. After this, you have to register 30 days before the date of marriage by going to the marriage office, the registration has been registered by the registration officer.
and then your registration application along with other information is placed on the notice board of the registration office for public display for 30 days, which can be seen by all.
Now comes the turn of problems, if within these 30 days if anyone objected to this registration that this marriage should not take place, then it will be investigated by the officer and within 30 days he will take a decision, if he has decided to get married. If you refuse, your registration will be treated as cancelled. You can appeal against its decision to the district court, where there are already so many cases pending that by coming to your number, maybe your age of marriage can also come out.
This objection to such marriages is common in Indian society. Many times relatives, family, friends are not ready to marry in any other religion of their acquaintance, many times different people and religious groups in the society stand up against it and raise objection to such marriages. , put pressure on family members and boys and girls. Due to which registration gets canceled many times.
Apart from this, if you do not get married within 90 days of the day you have registered, then your registration will be considered canceled and you will have to start the process again from zero.
Apart from this, there is another provision in this that if you belong to a Hindu undivided family which includes Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh and if you marry under this law, then you are legally part of the undivided family. are no longer a part. Due to which this option becomes very difficult, then the married couple turn to the second option.
Under the second option, if people of two different religions have to marry each other, then one of the couple leaves their religion and converts to the religion of their partner and adopts the religion of the partner, then they would have easily married. is .
But here the simple word is not so easy in our society, first of all, a large section of the society stands against it, the family members and the couple are pressured not to change religion. Sometimes they are even boycotted in the society.
Apart from this, one of the main problems is that Islam and Christianity have rules for conversion but there is no rule to do so in Hinduism, so the problem arises that how to convert and then how to get married.
How can one other reason be forgotten, without this, every issue seems to be closed, that is politics. Many times politics is done loudly on this issue, people of one religion always keep blaming the other religion, due to which an atmosphere of anarchy is created.
Apart from this, the issue of conversion has also been in the midst of controversies many times, many times marriage is done only by giving greed for marriage, forcefully and deceitfully converting religion. Apart from this, many people convert their religion only for the purpose of getting married.
Many state governments have also made laws, if you do the conversion by greed, force, then such conversion will be considered illegal and the marriage due to it will be declared invalid and for this there is also a provision of punishment from 1 to 5 years.
Rev Stanislaus VS Mp In 1977, the Supreme Court ruled that organized conversion, whether by coercion, deceit or greed, would be considered anti-secular.
It is clear from the above examples that at present marriage between two religions is not as easy as it seems from outside, the government is trying to control it because it is being misused. The government and society say that it is not right to change religion in the greed of marriage, if you have faith and reverence for another religion, then only you convert to religion.
But it is also necessary that illegal and coercive changes should be curbed and strict action should be taken against those who do so and together the laws which are available should be brought to the reach of common people and the justice system should be corrected so that the legal way It is through that that those who get married can feel comfortable.
Because before today many examples will be found in such a successful society, under which people of two different religions have married and set a better example for a society, so that the society can be empowered from the inner level and that between people. The distance associated with religion can be reduced and India can present a successful example of unity in diversity on the world stage.
